Only 2 hours from London, Wales provides a backdrop of exciting landscapes for visitors to explore. With 5 designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and 3 National Parks, with their snow-capped peaks and wild coastline, Wales is the perfect place to switch off and explore untouched valleys and sleepy villages, or to enjoy raring-to-go towns and cities.

Friday, May 10, 2019 - Harrogate to Liverpool

Departing Harrogate after ExploreGB, make the short journey to Liverpool, where the educational itinerary begins. Arrive in Liverpool and stop for dinner, before checking into your hotel for the night.

Day 2

Saturday, May 11, 2019 - Llangollen and Portmeirion

Day two starts at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Llangollen. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is a spectacular piece of engineering, completed in the 19th century to carry the canal over the River Dee. This is the largest aqueduct in Britain, designed by Thomas Telford and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, At 38 metres high, and 307m long, enjoy a  a leisurely canal boat ride and remember to bring a camera because the views are stunning!

In the afternoon, explore Chirk Castle, a 700 year old fortress, before transferring back to Portmeriron for dinner.

Sunday, May 12, 2019 - Portmeirion to Caernarfon

Situated on a private peninsula overlooking beautiful coastal scenery, experience a flavour of Italy on the coast of Snowdonia by starting your morning with a walking tour of Portmeirion Village.

Then, it’s a scenic ride on the Welsh Highland Railway – the perfect way to experience the beauty of Snowdonia, aboard a traditional steam train. Disembark at Caernarfon and take a short tour Penrhyn Castle before transferring to Aber and visiting the AberFalls Distillery.

Monday, May 13, 2019 - Bodnant Gardens and Snowdonia

Enjoy a delicious Welsh breakfast at your hotel, before setting off to meet the Mayor of Conwy for a quick lesson in Welsh, before a tour of some of North Wales’ most impressive sights. Nearby Bodnant Garden (National Trust) the first stop, and a must for garden enthusiasts, with botanical collections from around the globe. It has five Italianate terraces and formal lawns on its upper level, leading down to a wooded valley with a stream running through a secluded wild garden.

The lush green Conwy Valley isn’t the first place you’d expect to find record-breaking waves, but at Surf Snowdonia there are 6ft swells in a huge man-made surf lagoon, not to mention canoeing, kayaking or paddle boarding. Surf Snowdonia can be reached by taking the number 19 bus from Llandudno Junction station (30min).
