Beyond the countryside, the vibrant cities of Northern England are where you’ll find some of the country’s most famous football clubs, and once known for their industrial heritage, these are now renowned for their culture, shopping and nightlife.

Friday, May 10, 2019 - Harrogate to Yorkshire

Departing Harrogate after ExploreGB, make the short journey to York, where the educational itinerary begins. Arrive in York and check into your hotel for the night, before heading out for dinner.

Saturday, May 11, 2019 - York to Levans

The first stop of the itinerary is the opportunity to visit Castle Howard. One of Britain’s most impressive stately homes, Castle Howard can easily be reached from Malton (a 10 minute taxi ride, or 30 minutes if coming from York – from where there are also bus services available). The 18th-century residence is set within 1,000 acres of breath-taking landscape and boasts world-renowned works of art and stunning architecture.

The grounds include lakes, fountains, temples and woodland as well as a formal walled garden. There is also a changing programme of events to enjoy, and a range of cafés and shops including a farm shop. There is even time to enjoy lunch or a quintessentially English cream tea in the Courtyard Café before taking afternoon tea at the York Railway Museum.

In the afternoon, take a guided walk around the streets of York, including the famous sites of York Minster, the city Walls and the Shambles. End the tour at Jorvik Viking Centre, before entering a historic The Jorvik Viking Centre reveals the houses, workshops and backyards of the Viking city of Jorvik as it stood nearly 1,000 years ago. The centre also has state-of-the-art galleries and a fantastic ride experience.

Return to York for a chocolate tasting demo from the York Chocolate Story, before transferring to Levans for the night.

Sunday, May 12, 2019 - Levans to Keswick

Day three starts aboard Ullswater Steamers – a wonderful and environmentally friendly way to travel across one of the most beautiful lakes in the country. From there, make your way to Alpacaly Ever After, a unique way to get back to nature as you take a guided alpaca experience through some of the most stunning locations in the Northern Lake District.

People the world over know of Scottish whisky, but visitors to the Lake District need travel no further to explore a working distillery. After lunch, you will be visiting the award-winning Lakes Distillery where you will tour through the still stillroom and cask warehouse before tasting some of its delicious spirits. For lovers of spirits, this is a well-deserved treat at the end of the day!

Monday, May 13, 2019 - Keswick, Windermere and Liverpool

This morning, board the Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway and marvel at the picture perfect Lake District views as you make your way to Windemere – one of the Lake Districts most famous towns. Have some lunch, then it’s off to Windermere Jetty Museum of Boats, Steam, and Stories to learn about life on the lakes, before taking to the water and experiencing it for yourself!

In the afternoon, it’s back on the coach as you make the short journey from the stunning shores of Lake Windermere to the bustling city of Liverpool. Check in at the hotel and then set out to grab a bite to eat and explore this vibrant city. before heading out for dinner.

Today, wake up ready for a walking tour around the city that gave the world The Beatles! The morning will be spent immersing yourself in the world of British Music. First stop – The Beatles Story, an award-winning experience that will take you through the lives, times, culture and music of the world’s greatest band.

Next, it’s onto The British Music Experience where you will learn more about the British bands and musicians, as well as seeing iconic memorabilia from artists such as Freddie Mercury and David Bowie – a true must for any music fan!

After a full on morning experiencing Liverpool, it’s time to pack your bags and head to Manchester, another iconic Northern city just an hour’s drive from Liverpool centre. Check into your hotel, then head out for a fantastic dinner at Scene Indian Street Kitchen.

Monday, May 15, 2019 - Manchester

No visit to Manchester is completed without a tour of one of the biggest football clubs in Europe. The morning will be spent taking a guided tour of the Etihad Stadium home of Manchester City, before travelling to the home of Lancashire County Cricket Club, Emirates Old Trafford.

The club has held first-class status since it was founded in 1864. Here you will enjoy a spot of lunch before a guided tour around the ground.

If you haven’t had your fill of football, the final stop of the tour is the National Football Museum. From interactive exhibitions to a hall of fame, dive into the history of the ‘beautiful game’ before getting onto the coach and heading back to the airport.
