Welcome to The North of England

4 days

The North of England is home to some of the UK’s most stunning countryside – with The Yorkshire Dales, The Lake District National Park and Northumberland all within this breath-taking area. Beyond the countryside, the vibrant cities of Northern England are where you’ll find some of the country’s most famous football clubs, and once known for their industrial heritage, these are now renowned for their culture, shopping and nightlife.

Day 2

Saturday, May 11, 2019 - Penrith to Lancaster

The first full day of the itinerary begins with a transfer to Grasmere, in the very heart of The Lake District National Park. With no shortage of hills to climb in this stunning setting, an early morning walk to either Loughrigg Fell or Easedale Tarn is a great way to start the day and enjoy some of the beautiful views around Lake Grasmere. Nestling at the foot of these spectacular fells is Grassmere Village, a haven of shops, pubs and cafes and renowned for being both the home and final resting place of the poet William Wordsworth. And what better motivation for the journey back than The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop? This historic and atmospheric shop was established by Sarah Nelson in 1854 and produces a unique confectionery product called ‘Grasmere Gingerbread®’. This is only the place in the world where it is made and sold, baked fresh every day to a secret recipe.

Enjoy dramatic Lake District views on the coach from Grasmere to Windermere. Upon arrival, enjoy a spot of lunch, then it’s off to Windermere Jetty Museum of Boats, Steam, and Stories to learn about life on the lakes, before taking to the water and experiencing it for yourself!

Back at the hotel, refresh for dinner and enjoy a site visit and hosted dinner before retiring for the night.
