North America

VisitBritain is working on a strong and resilient return while keeping Britain front of mind for its North American travellers.  For now, we bring Britain to international audiences through our online channels including Facebook , Instagram and visitbritain.com, sharing the best of our culture and virtual visitor attractions from film and TV, to music and heritage, to British food and drink.  While we dream about our afternoon teas, our pints of ale, walks in our beautiful countryside, and rambles around our stately homes, Great Britain looks forward to welcoming you and your clients back to our shores as soon as we can.

‘WE’RE GOOD TO GO’ INDUSTRY STANDARD (JULY, 2020):

Britain is eager to welcome visitors again, but it’s important that we open up carefully and responsibly. For that reason, access to services and facilities could be restricted for a while and we want to help you and your clients get the necessary information to plan future trips as easily as possible.  We are delighted to announce the launch of a UK-wide industry standard and consumer mark, in partnership with the national tourism organisations of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to provide a ‘ring of confidence’ for tourism as the sector slowly reopens.  The ‘We’re Good To Go’ industry standard and ‘Know Before You Go’ is our activity to support tourism to Britain in this early stage of recovery. Through these standards, businesses across the tourism sector can demonstrate that they are adhering to the respective Government and public health guidance, have carried out a COVID-19 risk assessment and confirm they have the required processes in place.

A CONVERSATION WITH UKINBOUND & ETOA (July 8, 2020):

Our first live webinar focuses on the Covid-19 impact on the UK & European tourism industry.  Click below to watch VisitBritain’s Gavin Landry in conversation with Joss Croft, CEO, UKInbound and Tom Jenkins, CEO, ETOA.

STRATEGIC RESPONSE TO COVID-19 (JUNE 2020):

As the international response to the Covid-19 pandemic continues, public health and safety continues to be the UK Government’s priority. With global travel at a virtual standstill, VisitBritain had planned for the likelihood that we would not see international visitors in any great numbers until later this year.  Our priority is to insure that tourism rebounds to once again become one of the most successful sectors of the UK economy. We continue to work closely with the tourism industry and the UK Government.  We will also be working with the international travel trade so that they are ready to sell Britain again when restrictions are lifted. Click below to watch an update on VisitBritain’s recovery efforts presented by Carl Walsh, Travel Trade Director, North America.

North America Market Approach and Resources

The North America B2B approach supports the overall mission of VisitBritain by promoting Great Britain as the top tourist destination for American and Canadian travellers.

Our travel trade strategy is to work with key local intermediaries (tour operators and travel agent consortia) as well as the UK tourism industry in order to generate incremental visits as well as increase visitor value and volume throughout London, England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Our B2B approach synergizes with the US marketing and PR strategy.

Our product development strategy is led by our Commercial division and has focused on the Discover England Fund, Food & Drink, Rail and Gateways. To learn more about the Discover England projects, click here and feel free to reach out to Tara Didi, our DEF expert based in New York.
